Fashion items worth the splurge

Jean Ahn

Maybe it was the way I was brought up, but I was always taught to never buy things full price! I was instilled the value of every dollar and if you want something nice its fine to splurge, but be sure to look somewhere else to find it at a cheaper price or just wait for it to go on sale because it almost always does!

Over the years I have picked up some shopping tricks on my own and now I thrive on finding a good deal! I wanted to break down some items I believe are worth saving on and items that are worth the splurge! (within reason of course)

  1. Handbags: This is a bit of a double standard for me but sometimes I like to buy high end bags and sometimes I like to just buy cheap bags to just use freely. When I do buy something designer I always check Poshmark, The Real Real or Fashion Phile. Gently used items are always the best way to go for classic pieces, in my opinion and many times you can find some items that are like brand new!

  2. Shoes: This is purely speaking from experience but the many times I have gotten cheap shoes (under $20) I never ended up wearing them for more than a dozen times. While there is always a reason why cheap shoes never last, I think for an item you want to wear for years like boots or a classic pair of heels, its worth spending at least $100 for the quality but I definitely don’t believe in spending that much on every single pair of shoes, particularly ones that are just on trend and likely to be out of style in a year. (Hinting at those braided heels that are super popular right now) Also, from my experience, cheap heels ( under $50) I almost always get blisters and my feet are so incredibly painful in them. But I have been always able to find higher quality shoes on sale and there’s almost always a discount code online! Do your research before just giving in and paying full price!

  3. Jeans: I also have a double standard with jeans, because I have found that the jeans I paid over $100 I have worn for years and still wear today. Luckily designer jeans go on sale from time to time so I try to just purchase during a sale. For a more affordable price point for good quality jeans, I love Express and Madewell Jeans, the fit is always on point and they are almost always on sale. Also scour TJ Maxx or Marshalls, sometimes they will have designer jeans heavily discounted! I have found Paige, Current Elliot and Frame Denim there!

  4. Coats: I have talked about coats in this post, but as someone who lives in a city where a warm winter coat is essential, these are the types of coats I have in my closet: pea coat, puffer coat, trench coat, and a fun fur coat. I have collected these over time and picked classic styles. More on the exact styles of coats here.

  5. Sunglasses: If I am a snob about anything, it is probably sunglasses! Lol! I have acquired many pairs over the years, (high and low priced) and found that my most expensive pair which were Celine’s that were around $400 is my most worn pair and truly the quality is the best. I notice this especially when driving and the sun is glaring through the windshield. But for more affordable yet high quality sunglasses, Quay has ton of cute styles and they go on sale often! Linking some of my favorites here.
