Tips for a perfect morning during quarantine
Jean Ahn
Hi! Happy Monday! How is everyone doing during this crazy, anxious time? Many of us are probably still in quarantine and probably going stir crazy at home. I definitely am! 🙋This pandemic has effected every single person in more ways than one and it’s so difficult for everyone, my heart goes out to the essential workers who have been working tirelessly to help us in various ways. 💜During this time I have been really able to slow down and take more time for myself. Plus, its really given me the chance to catch up with so many friends that I otherwise haven’t been able to because of our busy schedules. Face time calls have really been my outlet during this quarantine. Before I really wasn’t a fan of face time calls and would always feel awkward… anyone else feel me on this? I’ve also loved using the Houseparty App to catch up and play games virtually with friends. Having these kinds of interactions (especially on the weekends) have helped me stay sane and social at the same time.
Another thing I am grateful for is the chance to have a relaxing, slow morning. Normally I’m frantically getting ready to rush out the door to try and beat the traffic while stuffing my face with toast for breakfast lol! These days I’m able to start my mornings in a calm and peaceful manner and during a super anxious and uncertain time I feel this is crucial for our well being. Here’s how I’m starting my morning in quarantine:
I wake up about an hour and half before I have to start work and I drink water and brush my teeth, wash my face etc. and make my bed. When I say ‘make the bed’ I don’t like to spend a ton of time to make it perfect. I organize my pillows nicely and pull my duvet cover up to the pillows. In my opinion, a simple task as making the bed shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. I just don’t want more time taken out of enjoying coffee. 😂
I like to make coffee right away or if I’m really with it the night before I set a timer so my coffee is ready.
Depending on how I feel, sometimes I make a small breakfast ( a piece of toast, yogurt) right away or wait a few hours later. I like to drink my coffee and read The Daily Stoic. It really helps me to set the tone for the day and helps me start with a positive and calming mindset.
I also try and do some light yoga and stretching and meditation even if its for 5 minutes. I immediately feel more centered and ready to tackle the day.
If I’m really feeling up to it I get a workout in using the Workout for Women app! It’s free and has tons of different workouts plus yoga and stretching!
As hard as it is to not wear sweats, try to ‘dress up’ for the day. I invested in some nice leggings and sweatshirts so I am semi-comfortable. If I wear my over worn, ratty sweats my productivity level decreases. I like these leggings and this tie-dye sweatshirt that could also be worn as a top. Tie-dye is so on trend right now!
Throughout the day I try to stay as hydrated as possible and drink lots of water. I also like to add mint and lemon to my water for a little flavor. I keep my water cold thanks to either my Starbucks cold cup or Hydro Flask and straw lid . These are both options to stay hydrated and keep track of your water intake.
Hope these tips help you to have the best morning possible during these anxious times. Would love to hear some of your current morning routines!
Stay safe and healthy everyone! 💛
