The Makeup Products you'll use everyday
Jean Ahn
Hi! How is everyone?!
When it comes to makeup I think I can speak for many of us… we probably started with some baby blue eyeshadow and swiping glitter on our eye lids and maybe throw in some cheap blush in there too, I mean horrific right? What was I thinking?! Luckily that was just a phase and I started to gain some knowledge about quality makeup and quality tools in high school thanks to my cousin who was a several years older than me. I will never forget what she told me back then “whatever you spend money on spend on good makeup brushes because they will last a lifetime if you take care of them correctly.” I took this advice to heart and slowly started building my brush collection. (I’ll do a separate post on makeup brushes) But I quickly found (though trial and error) high quality products are vital too but of course those high quality products are not cheap! I found some ways around this expensive habit… I don’t buy what I won’t use everyday. I don’t have some crazy, cluttered makeup collection because I noticed that I would use just about the same products everyday. I ask for tests on products/colors and samples, especially for foundations. The sales associate will usually give you an adequate amount which will last you quite a bit. That way you can take time to see if you like the product before buying a bottle. Also be sure you are getting matched correctly! Be sure to find a knowledgeable makeup associate who can color match you and be sure to go every season, I found my skin tone changes in the summer vs winter.
Here are some of the products and tools I use almost everyday:
I have tried dozens of eyeshadows in the past but I always find my way back to Lancome’s eyeshadow palette in Mauve Cherie. The texture is so smooth and the eyeshadow stays put for the day. I also love Gris Fumee. These palettes are a bit pricey but many times they have sample sizes in the gift with purchases and they have individual colors as well.
After trying various eyeliner pens and pencils I love this Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner, it goes on so smooth and does not smudge and it’s so much easier (in my opinion) to create a cateye with this gel eyeliner. I like to use it with this brush (it is a lip brush but it works so well for everyday eyeliner)
For brows I use a combination of this Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift and this MAC eyeshadow I apply the eyeshadow with an angled brush and blend in using the brow brush at the other end of the Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift.
As for foundations I go back and forth between the Clinique Chubby in the Nude foundation stick and the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion.
For blush I use Nars Orgasm just like everyone else but I have also been loving this Tarte blush which I got from a birthday gift from Sephora. The sample size has lasted me quite a while!
A setting powder I have been using this Chanel Universal Compact for years and I love it. It’s light but still provides the necessary coverage.
I shared this Lancome mascara a few weeks ago on my Instagram stories but out of all the mascaras I have tried ( expensive and cheap) the Lancome Monsieur Big is by far the best. It makes your lashes voluminous with just 1 coat and does not clump at all! It even curls my lashes a bit too. I have really straight lashes and have the hardest time curling them! A close second is the Lancome Grandiose. The curved brush works really well! As a primer I use Lancome Cils Booster. I really think all of Lancome’s Mascaras are the best ( I have tried almost all of theirs) and a pretty good price point too for the quality.
For lips I have been using this Charlotte Tilbury lip liner and I love it because of the smooth texture and blends really well with various colors. ( I use the shade Bond Girl) I recommend finding a lip liner similar to your natural lip color so you can stick to just 1 or 2 lip liners.
When it comes to lipsticks I have my go tos depending on the occasion. For special occasions I love using this Chanel Le Rouge duo Lip colour in Ever Red. It’s the perfect shade of red as it’s bright but not blindingly bright. The ultra saturated lipstick is not drying at all and lasts all through the night even through food and drinks. It is a bit hard to take off but a makeup wipe takes it off instantly. For everyday I switch back and forth between Charlotte Tilbrry Kissing Lipstick in Bond Girl and Lancome’s L'Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lip Color in Coquette, it’s the perfect nude lip for everyday and the lipstick is really nourishing which is critical for the cold winter months.
